About Campbell Express

Campbell’s Express Tracking

About 1900 saw the founding of Campbell’s Express. The sales Mr. Campbell had gotten from the neighborhood shops in Pitman and Glassboro, New Jersey, were picked up at that time by Mr. Campbell as he strolled through Philadelphia. He would use a rope to handle the packages by tying them to his body so he wouldn’t spill anything, and then he would travel by train to Pitman. He would then distribute his “consignments” one by one to the neighborhood stores.

When some individuals were still utilizing horses and buggies in 1918, Mr. Campbell bought their first vehicle and then used the moniker “Campbell’s Auto Express” to let individuals know he had an “Auto.”

In 1923, the business was acquired by Mr. Randall Worthington, who continued to run it with one to two trucks. Due to the “Motor Carrier Act” being passed in 1935, Campbell’s Auto Express was granted a Certificate of Public Necessity and Convenience. One of the smallest certifications still in use is the ICC 109 that was awarded.

In 1945, Mr. Worthington sold the business to Louis G. Hannum, Sr., and his wife Helen, who also acquired the fleet of secondhand Ford straight jobs. In 2005, possession was passed to Cheryl Gallagher and Mike Hannum, the couple’s kids. Today, Esther Gallagher and William Messenger jointly manage the business they bought.

Over time, Campbell’s expanded from a one-truck enterprise to a business with 145 employees and 78 trucks in service. The founders have taken care to stay loyal to their beginnings even as the business has grown by maintaining the ability to offer individualized service, high-quality workmanship, and affordable pricing. Deliveries are transported overnight within a 150-mile radius of Pitman using its single terminal facility. Additionally, you can track and trace your shipments online using their tracking system.
