About Bad Boy
In 1955, Mel Lastman opened the first Bad Boy store, and the rest followed. Mel's corporate identity claimed that Bad Boy was "the shopping destination" due to its incredible rates and first-rate client service.
Thanks to his innovative advertising ploys like giving away two-dollar bills for a $1, branded the "best two-for-one offering you could get," Mel became an instant superstar in Toronto. Mel's charm and economic sense helped turn one shop into a successful chain with more than 40 locations throughout Canada.
When Mel stood for governor of North York in 1972, it was when he first entered elections. After winning the election, Mel made the decision that he should abandon his beloved tables and chairs, equipment, and electronics dynasty in order to focus exclusively on helping his city. This decision was made in 1975. Blayne Lastman, who was 14 at the time, was adamant about carrying on the Bad Boy tradition in the future. Mel, who held the position of mayor for over 34 years and earned the nickname "Mega City Mel," won the respect and affection of the public in the meantime.
In 2012, Lastman's Bad Boy opened a product line at a 30,000 square foot location in Brampton as part of its ongoing effort to restore its former grandeur. The restoration of Mississauga and Whitby in 2013 marked the beginning of the trend for all subsequent major retailers. On August 15, Bad Boy enjoyed their most recent official launch in the beautiful city of Kingston. With no plans to halt down anytime soon, Lastman's Bad Boy is about to open another permanent site in Ottawa, the city of their nation! Each new place that Bad Boy has opened has grown bigger and better.
